Day 5 of Mission Trip Sosua Abajo

Our last day of clinic was very busy, seeing over 294 people.  Over the week, 1143 were seen at the 5 clinics. As you can see our clinic was set up in a school.  Many school children received fluoride treatment without being registered, bringing our total number of treatments to over 1500 people in the Sosua area.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 4 of our mission trip at Villa Liberacion

Wow! 307 people today seen at the clinic today.  The nurses are assessing their patients and getting the work done.  Pharmacy then dispenses and the people are on their way.  All children 5 to 14 are given fluoride.  Supper is always nearby.

Day 3 of Mission trip at La Cienega

It all starts at registration..... as we move into the small villages and towns in and around Sousa, Dominican Republic.  Today we are setup in a school in Caberete, a school that has about 700 students.  Younger school children start early, about 7:30 am as we arrived for our clinic.  Older students go to school later in the day as the school is too  small to accommodate this many students.  Today we see 237 patients and approximately 110 families. Mark, our recreational director, organizes students from the school and area to distribute baseball equipment.  You should have seen the smiles. We have become such a close knit team working together that we are done are work by 5:00 pm.  We head back to our resort and enjoy some libation and relaxation.  Another rewarding day.  ps.. stay tuned we may have a video about a few people that may have been on local TV.

Oh Canada!!

Oh Canada, fitted another 65 people with lenses, and sunglasses, with the help of our excellent translator from Poland, spoke 5 languages! We sort of got extremely rained out, and splashed back all the way back to the hotel. 

Flexible, adaptable and ready to change!

Day 2 at La Catalina

Flexible, adaptable and ready to change! That is our motto on our medical mission in the Dominican and we sure lived by it today. Think along the lines of adjusting a cane with the help of a local gentleman and his machete kind of adapting.  Today also brought along with it lots of success stories. Dianne had a particularly rewarding day at the physiotherapy station when she was visited by a 94 year old local woman. This woman had some problems with her stability and was using a large walking stick to assist her. After realizing that a walker just wasn't practical for her living situation, Dianne fitted her with a quad cane to help provide better stability. Well you should have seen this amazing woman walk out of the building a whole lot steadier and standing tall! We look forward to making more memories and continuing to be flexible, adaptable and ready to change at our next medical clinic in la cieniga.

Day 1 clinic at Madrevieja

Today was our first day of clinics and was very busy and chaotic at times.  We left our resort around 7:am and returned back around 5;30.  Over 150 men, women and children were given medical attention including medications, fluoride treatment, physiotherapy, respiratory, and reading glasses.
Toothbrushes brought big smiles to the young children.
